Are you on the way to Apple Hill during the fall apple season?  Are you on your way to Lake Tahoe to ski, fish, or just plain relax?  If you are, chances are you'll be driving on Highway 50, and when you're just east of Placerville, and you're in the mood for some great "diner" cuisine, you'll find Apple Bistro a great place to stop, and enjoy a great meal.

As with all of reviews that I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences.

Photo:  Apple Bistro is located on U.S. Highway 50, about five miles east of Placerville, at the northern end of California's gold country.  If you're heading to Apple Hill or Lake Tahoe, this fine diner is an ideal stop for breakfast or for lunch.  It's a little after 7 in the morning, Wednesday, February 21, 2018, and I'm ready for breakfast.

We used to have a group called the Sacramento Breakfast Club, who got together for breakfast every other Friday after work, as most of us worked the graveyard shift.  Back on Friday, October 14, 2011, we visited this fine restaurant, when it was under different ownership, and named Red Apple Cafe.  Click on the hyperlink to enjoy our previous visit.

Photo:  As you walk in the front door, you're greeted with a wood stove, burning locally chopped oak wood, and a cheerful pie counter, where you can purchase in-house made pie by the "each," or by the slice.  On this chilly 22-degree Wednesday morning, the cheery fire felt great, so I seated myself at the table just behind the "Please Wait to be Seated" sign.

Photo:  This dining room is very comfortable, and the decor could be described as "country," or "rustic," which works for Apple Bistro, as the restaurant is located in the Sierra Nevada foothills, on the way to Lake Tahoe.

Photo:  Another view of the main dining room.  The restaurant opens at 0700, and I arrived around 0730 to find I was the only customer on this Wednesday morning.  So far, 2018 has been a very dry year, with little snow, so the crowds heading to the Tahoe area ski slopes weren't happening today, which most likely accounted for a very lightly-seated dining room.

Photo:  Apple Bistro is open for breakfast and lunch, and they're serious about breakfast.  This is one page of the extensive breakfast menu.  Note you can even order potato salad for breakfast, which is a first for me.  Wait a minute... $3.99 for a side of country gravy?  $2.99 for avocado?

Photo:  A peek through the kitchen window shows my server, Sabrina, at work, as "Cookie" watches.  The kitchen isn't exactly open, but you can take a peek inside with the right positioning.

Photo:  The attractive patio offers an outstanding view of the oak and pine studded hills to the west of the restaurant.  You can also watch general aviation take off and land from the Placerville airport, but on this chilly Wednesday morning, it was way to cold to sit outside, as I preferred to enjoy my breakfast next to the wood-fired stove, inside the dining room.

Photo:  Sabrina serves another customer, who walked in shortly after I did.  He must be a regular, as Sabrina greeted him by name.

Sabrina was friendly, and efficient, but she didn't want her photo taken, so I didn't press the matter.  I definitely love to get a "server photo," so I felt a little disappointed.

Photo:  Thanks, Sabrina, for snapping my photo, as I prepare to enjoy my delicious breakfast.

Photo:  From the extensive breakfast menu, I ordered the "North of the Border," which is two eggs cooked to your liking - over easy in my case - two biscuits covered with country gravy, along with fried potatoes.  At $9.99, this breakfast was not cheap, but it was delicious and filling, as it kept me filled until dinner.

Apple Bistro has it all, including friendly staff, great food, rustic atmosphere, and an outdoor patio with a beautiful view.  When you're on your way to Lake Tahoe, and you're ready for relaxed dining, and great, "diner-style" cuisine, stop at Apple Bistro.
